Marcus Hughes Clarinet and Saxophone Instructor

Marcus Hughes, originally of Waseca, MN, is the 5-12 Band Director in Centerville, SD, but resides in Sioux Falls. He received his education from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. While at USD , he studied saxophone with Dr. CJ Kocher, and composition with Dr. Paul Lombardi. He performed in top ensembles (Jazz 1 and Symphonic Band) and was the alto saxophone section leader in The SOUND of USD Marching Band for two years. He has had experience playing alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, and has had the opportunities to play clarinet and bass clarinet when needed during high school and college. He has taught in multiple different avenues including: two years with the Waseca Marching Jays as director of woodwinds and the programs at Washington HS and Whittier MS during his student teaching. He graduated with a degree in Music Education in December 2025.
