After an ominous mighty opening in G minor, the mood shifts dramatically to expanding contrapuntal melodies and eventually to a peaceful and lyrical section in B-flat major. Agitato (restless), legato (smoothly), and pesante (ponderous) lines return in G minor to combine for the thrust needed as the flight finally pulls away from the turbulent sun.
