QTY Bell
The bell of the Q30 trombone is 8.5 inches wide and is of two-piece construction. It has a hand-hammered “QI” taper in lightweight yellow brass with a soldered bead. This delivers a clear, singing tone with excellent projection and clarity.
Bell Engraving
The bell features the S.E. Shires marker’s mark along with a traditional floral pattern to add a touch of elegance to the instrument’s appearance.
Axial-Flow F Valve
This style of F attachment provides an open, free-blowing experience with minimal resistance when engaging the trigger. This offers a broad, encompassing tone quality across all registers – especially in the low range.
QW47 Handslide
The .547-inch handslide on this trombone is made from standard-weight yellow brass with a nickel-silver wide crook. This ensures a broad sound that retains clarity, color, and crisp articulation.
QY Tuning Slide
The main tuning slide is crafted from yellow brass. This enhances the overall resonance and tonal richness.
Interchangeable Leadpipes
This model comes with three interchangeable yellow brass leadpipes, allowing the trombonist to tailor the instrument’s response and feel to their preference. The central number of the leadpipe model indicates the relative size of the venturi (the tightest point in the taper). The venturi largely determines the efficiency of the blow and also influences response, articulation, timbre, and density of sound.
- Size 1: small venturi diameter—centered sound with very clear articulation
- Size 2: medium venturi diameter—open sound, generally the most popular size
- Size 3: largest venturi diameter—large, broad sound
