Old-world craftsmanship and materials come together in our Ivan Dunov instruments. Crafted in a traditional workshop method from superb tone woods and hand varnished in our workshop in Beijing, China. These instruments provide excellent sound and playability.

Hand-Carved Romanian Spruce Top

The solid spruce top is carved by hand from select Romanian tonewood, providing rich resonance and tonal clarity that responds well across the viola’s range.

Romanian Maple Back & Ribs

The back and ribs are crafted from flamed Romanian maple, contributing to a balanced, warm sound with depth and projection.

Antiqued Spirit Varnish Finish

A hand-applied spirit varnish gives the viola an attractive, traditional appearance while allowing the wood to vibrate freely for optimized tone quality.

Ebony Fingerboard and Fittings

Durable ebony is used for the fingerboard, pegs, and chinrest, providing smooth playability, stable tuning, and classic visual contrast.

Genuine Hand-Inlaid Purfling

Traditional purfling around the edges not only adds refined visual detail but also helps protect the instrument’s top from cracking.

Despiau “1 Tree” Bridge

A quality French-style bridge that efficiently transfers string vibration to the body, supporting a balanced and expressive tone.
