The Three Groovy Grizzlies is a venture into the style of swing. It is set in the key of G, and requires no position work except for basses. The phrase structure consisting of three similar statements followed by a fourth unrelated statement is used for the piece. The introduction begins with "Once upon a time…." While tremolos indicate the growling of the bears, the A melody suggests a stroll in the woods, as the rhythmic motive "Someone's been sleeping in my bed!" punctuates each verse.
